Jersey Devil

Jersey Devil

Description

The Jersey Devil originated in Southern New Jersey. The Cryptide is described as a flying biped with hooves. The most common discription of a New Jersey Devil is that it looks like a kangaroo, with a head of a bat, horns, giant bat wings, small arms with claws and a forked tail.

The New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devil is one of the most unique cryprides to me because it worked it's way into the pop culture of it's area. In the National Hockey League, new jersey's team is named after this cryptide. It really has become a cultural icon in the state.

Orgin of the Legend

There was a mother named Leeds who supposivley had 12 children. When she found out she was pregnant with her 13th child she said, it would be the devil. Mother Leeds is said to be a witch and her husband was the devil himself. The child is then born and changes form. The baby changes into the New Jersey Devil and then kills it's mom. It took place in Atlantic county, which is now New Jersey.

Skeptics

Skeptics believe the Jersey Devil is to be nothing more than just a made up fable, that English settlers told there children for entertainment. They came up with this conclusion because there are no bones or photos of the Jersey Devil and you can't even believe in the cryptide if you don't believe in the supernatural. The Jersey Devil is just famous because it was able to become popular among the culture it originated in.
